Testimonials from the Kids
Testimonial by Krystal Brown, Newcastle "Dear Ross, my name is Krystle Brown and I met you when I stayed at the Ronald McDonald Beach House. The accommodation was fantastic because I am in a wheelchair and it was suitable for my special needs. It was comfortable and enjoyable to stay in. I have never been to Forster before - it's such a pretty place for a holiday! I just wanted to write and say thank you for all the hard work that you and your wife have put into the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat. I was very grateful that I got the opportunity to stay in the House, so thank you again!" Testimonial by Leanne, Greg, Luke and Zoe, Tamworth "Dear Ross, I hope this card finds you and your family all keeping well. We are all fit and well here in Tamworth. Luke is soldiering on like a trooper. He is extremely well and has put on heaps of weight. You would never have known that he had been sick except from the bald patch at the back of his head. He has just graduated from primary school and in 2008 will be in high school. Maybe one day we may get the chance to come back and stay at Forster again!" Testimonial by Alice Alderman "Dear Ross and all at Ronald McDonald Beach House, My family and I had the priviledge to stay in your wonderful cabins. What a pleasure it was! Our holiday was the greatest, all made better because of your kindness and excellent facilities! Many, many thanks!" Testimonial by Matt, Leonie, Charlie and Millie Tindale "Dear Ross, thank you for the fantastic holiday! The cabins were fantastic, the hospitality was great and Forster was beautiful! You've done a wonderful job and many families will be better off for it! All the best!" Testimonial by The Transton Family, Casino "Dear Ross and Ronald McDonald House Charities, thank you for our enjoyable time at Forster! We all had a wonderful holiday and it was a fantastic experience! Many thanks!" Margaret and Ray Patten, Bracken Ridge "Dear Ross, I am writing to say a big thank you for a great holiday my family enjoyed at Forster during Christmas and New Year, which would not have been possible without your hard work and organisation. My family will always remember the Christmas that we spent there. Olivia is doing well with her leukaemia treatment and remembers Santa well! Thanks again!"
Testimonial by The Sam Family, Rankin Park "Hi Steve, finally got around to printing these! Sorry its taken so long to get them to you. Hope all is well and life is grand!!! Take care and keep smiling!" Testimonial by Trevor Sutton, Jessica's daddy "Dear Ross, my family spent a wonderful week in House #1 from January 7th to 14th. This was the first 'proper' holiday that we have had together since Jessica (10) was diagnosed with leukaemia at age 6. What can I say! The facilities werre absolutely first rate. The views were inspiring and even the weather and fishing were excellent. The work that you and your team have put in to making this facility a reality is nothing short of inspiring. I know that you did not lay the 'bricks and mortar' yourself, but no team achieves success without a hard-working leader with a worthwhile vision. You have obviously enlisted a powerful team of dedicated and caring people to achieve a dream... The first thing that Jessica said as we went over the bridge on our way home was "When can we come back, Daddy?" I think that is evidence enough that the week was just what the doctor ordered. The boat trip around the lake, the fantastic tour in the stretch VW, and the welcome and affection we recieved at the Arts and Crafts Centre were all humbling and touching. I had not been to Forster since 1967 - needless to say, the town has changed a lot since then. It is now on top of our favourite places list and we would love to return one day to catch that big flattie that got away! Please pass on my heartfelt and genuine thanks for making the holiday possible. As you are no doubt aware, one of the many costs of childhood illness is financial and i don't think we will ever pay off the credit debt! However, the value of this week away cannot be measured in dollars and cents; it is measured in the smile on Jessica's face. Again thankyou from the bottom of our collective hearts." Testimonial by Alec Hanson, Age 12. 2006 "The event that stands out the most in my life would be when i had leukaemia (a form of cancer). I was 4 1/2 years old when I was diagnosed. This meant for 2 years I had to visit Sydney Childrens Hospital, Randwick and Manning base Hospital in Taree for treatment. I had hundreds of needles which I didn't like at all. There were also many days when I had to fast (this means no food or drinks for hours) before going into theatre. In theatre I would be put to sleep so Doctor's could give me special treatment and take samples for testing. When I awoke I would get a reward and KFC. Before and after hospital admittances we were able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. This is located abut 400m down the road from the hospital. Here I played a lot of fun games with other kids and made pancakes with Mum. There was a pool table, outside play area, videos, books, toys and Max (the house dog). Sometimes Mum, Nan and I would get the chance to go sight seeing. Some of the places we went to were the Dinosaur Museum, Sydney Aquarium and Taronga Zoo. I spent many nights in hospital and if Nan was with me she and I would always watch Mr. Bean, we didn't miss an episode. I made plenty of friends at hospital; two of my best mates are Rhys and Damian. Sadly the treatment did not work for them and they both passed away. I was lucky to have met both of them; they were very brave and really good friends to me. I really miss playing with them, I miss them a lot. In the hospital I enjoyed visiting the Starlight Room, where there were lots of fun activities like drawing, magic tricks, performances and best of all; the electronic games.
I will always remember this part of my life. The experience taught me a lot, mostly to
appreciate each day."
